Platelet-Rich Plasma
Encinitas,CA

An example of a tooth treated with PRP at Encinitas Periodontics & Dental Implants in Encinitas, CAThanks to a relatively new material, known as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), tissue regeneration following oral surgery or a tissue graft is faster and more successful than ever before. At Encinitas Periodontics & Dental Implants, we use platelet-rich plasma because we want our patients to have the most comfortable and effective treatments available today. If you are looking innovative prosthodontic care, you have come to the right place!

What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma is a byproduct of blood that, as the name suggests, has a high count of platelets and growth factors. During wound healing, these platelets and growth factors are typically the first cells that initiate tissue regeneration. The use of PRP during oral surgery promotes a faster and more effective healing process.

In the past, PRP was only available through hospitals and hematologists due to the high cost of production. With the advent of new technologies, PRP is now cost-effective and easier to produce, much to the benefit of our patients. We now can produce PRP right here in our state-of-the-art facility.

We begin PRP treatment by collecting a small sample of your blood, about two ounces. Next, your blood is placed in a centrifuge, which we spin at high speeds to separate the platelets from other parts of your plasma, such as red and white blood cells. Once the platelets have been properly harvested, we will move forward with the rest of your treatment. The entire process can be completed in about 30 minutes.

Why We Use Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma allows us to take advantage of the natural healing properties in your blood. During the healing process, the platelets release growth factors into the wound, which stimulates stem cells to regenerate new tissue. PRP provides an increased number of growth factors to stimulate more stem cells, regenerating tissue at a highly accelerated rate.

PRP is particularly useful following a bone or soft tissue graft. This includes socket preservations, ridge augmentations, sinus lifts, and gum grafts. We may recommend one of these procedures to help you qualify for dental implants. If you have experienced bone deterioration due to tooth loss, PRP can help expedite the process of regeneration, allowing you to undergo implant treatment as soon as possible.

Benefits of Platelet-Rich Plasma

Treatment with platelet-rich plasma has become increasingly popular in recent years, largely thanks to its numerous benefits. Some of these benefits include:
•  Convenience: PRP is an outpatient procedure that often takes place during the same appointment as your oral surgery.
•  Safety: Because PRP is made using your blood, there is no risk of rejection or disease transmission.
•  Effectiveness: PRP has proven to be an effective way to ensure the success of grafting procedures. Faster tissue regeneration can reduce the risk of infection, discomfort, and other complications following your procedure.

During your initial consultation, we will perform a diagnostic exam and discuss the best course of action to improve your oral health. If you need a bone or soft tissue graft, you may qualify for PRP as well. Talk with Dr. Bembey to learn more about your possible treatment options.
